Thursday, April 25, 2024
This Event Is A Series Of Dates (See Below)
4/25/2024 and 4/26/2024
Topic:   PBIS, Climate, Behavior
Sponsored by:   ESC-NEO
Presenter(s):   Dr. Kamonta Heidelburg
Description:
Enhancing equity in School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) involves ensuring all students have equal access to support within the school system. This is crucial because it ensures that every student receives the necessary resources to succeed, irrespective of their cultural identities.  To promote equity in SWPBIS, educators must ensure that SWPBIS systems are culturally responsive to the students intended to serve.
This two-day series will provide educators with knowledge and skills on integrating culturally responsive practices into SWPBIS implementation efforts to enhance equitable outcomes. Each session will cover a range of practices, such as

  1. using data to improve equity-focused decision-making,
  2. minimizing educators' biases,
  3. culturally responsive multi-tiered support of systems (MTSS),
    and alternatives to suspensions.
Our presenter is Dr. Kamonta Heidelburg. Dr Heidelburg is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, Assistant Professor of School Psychology at Ohio State University, and owner of Black Excellence in Education (B.E.E.N.) LLC. He consults with schools to advance culturally responsive policies and practices such as school-wide positive behavior interventions and supports (SWPBIS). Dr. Heidelburg has conducted professional training and published articles regarding cultural awareness and teaching, implicit bias, problem-solving approaches to discipline, implementing SWPBIS with cultural responsiveness at the core, and inclusion of students, families, and communities' voices as solutions to increase cultural competency among adults to promote better outcomes for racially/ethnically minoritized students.
