The Educational Service Center (ESC) of Northeast Ohio offers training for superintendents, principals and other central office personnel on the use of the state framework for the principal evaluation system. The Ohio Principal Evaluation System [OPES] is a standards-based integrated model designed to foster the professional growth of principals in knowledge, skills and practice. The framework provides tools for assessing and monitoring leadership performance, including both formative assessment and summative evaluation.
Model components are:
- Goal-Setting and Professional Growth Plan;
- Communication and Professionalism;
- Skills and Knowledge; and
- Measures of Student Academic Growth.
The model incorporates a performance rating rubric to determine an overall principal effectiveness rating. State-certified trainers also provide consultation and support to districts creating or revising their existing principal evaluation framework.
