Brooklyn Welcomes Cleveland Browns for Gym Class Takeover

Students at Brooklyn School enjoyed a fun-filled morning of inspiring remarks and flag-football activities in the Field House on Tuesday, November 12th, as part of a “Gym Class Takeover” event sponsored by the Cleveland Browns Foundation and Meijer. The exciting event is part of the Browns Flag In-Schools program and is offered monthly to a selected school that participates in the Stay in the Game! Network (SITG) attendance awareness campaign. Brooklyn School kicked off the festivities with an all-school assembly in the Field House featuring Browns’ mascot, Chomps, and Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Lorenzo Thompson. During his remarks, Lorenzo shared the positive impact his teachers and coaches had on his journey to the NFL, and stressed the importance of strong character traits, hard work, and good attendance to achieve personal goals. Mr. Thompson, Chomps, and representatives from the Cleveland Browns Foundation and Meijer then presented a $2,500 grant to Principal Johnny Bollin and Assistant Principal Marcello DeAngelis to support the district’s attendance campaign.

The excitement continued with a special “Gym Class Takeover” program offered to a group of second and third grade students who demonstrated strong attendance in school. Under the direction and encouragement of Brooklyn staff and Meijer representatives, students engaged in a variety of flag football stations as upbeat music played in the background. Lorenzo Thompson joined in on the football fun, taking time to sign autographs and take a group picture at the conclusion of the activities. Congratulations to all participating students for ‘staying in the game’ with strong school attendance! Brooklyn City Schools would like to thank the Cleveland Browns Foundation and Meijer for the generous grant in support of the district’s attendance efforts and for providing our students with an unforgettable experience.
