Richmond Heights School Board President to Receive National Award

Nneka Slade Jackson has been a member of the Richmond Heights Local Schools Board of Education since 2013.  At that time the district found itself in a state of flux.   She has served as the Board President for the past 5 years and was instrumental in getting an unprecedented levy passed in order to build the new 21st Century Community Learning Center that now stands on the district’s campus.
She will be honored by the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) at its annual convention in Washington, D.C. on December 3, 2022.  The organization will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year during the convention which will be held at The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.  NABSE annually honors a school board member that has demonstrated an unswerving commitment to representing and facilitating the educational needs of all children, particularly those of African descent.
Ms. Slade Jackson is the mother of three boys, with her youngest being a freshman at the high school.  She has advocated on behalf of the Richmond Heights Local School District before state legislative bodies and the local city council.  Her latest advocacy endeavor is her representation on the statewide lawsuit against vouchers, where Richmond Heights is one of five lead plaintiffs challenging the constitutionality of the voucher system in Ohio.
“It is such an honor to be recognized on a national level for the work that I do.  I am a mother that fights for equity for not only my children, but for all of our children in Richmond Heights,” states Nneka Slade Jackson.
