Designing Instruction for Online Learning- VIRTUAL
Monday, June 1, 2020
Sponsored by:
Description:   This session explores how the educational experience transforms when instruction moves from face-to-face to an online environment.  As educators recover from the crisis mode of transitioning to online learning we can begin to design instruction for online learning.  Influenced by the article Successfully Taking Offline Classes Online by Catlin R. Tucker, this session will investigate the roles of the teacher presence, social presence, and content presence in an online learning environment.

Mindy Geschke, Educator Quality Consultant at the ESC of Northeast Ohio, will be facilitating these sessions.  She held various roles in twelve years working at a state-wide online school, including classroom teacher (HS mathematics), online content specialist, OTES evaluator, and district level administration.

A few questions we will discuss:

=       Can Google Classroom serve as our Learning Management System (LMS)?

=       How does the role of the teacher change in an online learning environment?

=       Can teachers use the same classroom/content resources online as they did face-to-face?

=       How do evaluators conduct online teacher observations?

=       What does formative assessment look like online?

=       What are best practices for live instruction?  Does it look the same across grade levels?
