Ohio districts are shifting their instruction to align with the science of reading, but what does
that really mean in practice? Come learn how the science of reading translates into structured
literacy practices that can be applied in your classroom, regardless of the subject area.
According to the Ohio Department of Education, effective literacy instruction for grades
6-12 includes: “Students practicing regularly with complex text and its academic language, grounded
in evidence from the text, including both literary and informational texts, and building knowledge
through content-rich informational text.”
In this session, educators will learn strategies to apply the elements of effective literacy
instruction, including vocabulary, comprehension, and writing strategies, to help build
their students' proficiency in essential literacy skills.
