Ohio’s Learning Standards include content statements on the imperialism of Africa from 1800-1914. This session is designed for teachers of Modern World History looking to enhance their teaching of African Imperialism with lessons designed with student engagement in mind.
This workshop will dispense with teacher-led lectures and focus on lessons that require students to actively participate in their own learning. The workshop will include lesson plans and assessments for the causes of imperialism, King Leopold’s colonization and crimes in the Congo Free State, the colonization and genocide in Namibia, and the consequences of imperialism across Africa.
