Sponsored by:   ESC-NEO
Presenter(s):   Amanda Nowak and Tom Hanicak
Description:
In this interactive professional development session, educators and staff will learn strategies for understanding and responding to challenging student behaviors through a trauma-informed approach. Recognizing that adverse childhood experiences and trauma can significantly affect a child’s emotional and behavioral responses, this training emphasizes empathy, support, and de-escalation techniques tailored to students who may be experiencing underlying stress or trauma. Participants will explore the principles of trauma-informed practices, develop practical skills to build safe and supportive classroom environments, and examine strategies to foster resilience and emotional regulation in students. By the end of this session, attendees will be equipped to foster a compassionate response that minimizes power struggles and maximizes positive outcomes for students dealing with challenging behaviors.
