Creating a Culture for Disciplinary Literacy - Cancelled
Tuesday, January 25, 2022
Topic:   Behavior & Climate
Sponsored by:   SST 3
Presenter(s):   Roger Howard
Description:
Ohio’s Strategic Plan for Education, Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement, and Ohio’s Learning Standards strongly support the importance of literacy as a lever for both school improvement and college and career readiness.  Disciplinary Literacy is an important component of the final phase of Ohio’s Language and Literacy Development Continuum, Adolescent Literacy.

Based on the work of several national literacy experts, participants of this workshop will gain both a conceptual understanding of disciplinary literacy as well as content-specific classroom practices and resources to advance purposeful reading, writing, and discussion of complex text in grades 4-12.

Participants are asked to bring a content-specific  article (or other type of non-textbook reading  sample) that would challenge students but also enhance a particular unit of study.
