Shaker Heights Elementary Students Participate in Mascot Name Election
Within Shaker Heights Schools, students at Fernway Elementary School learned about voting during Election Week by participating in an election of their own.

The election began with a voter registration event, followed by a primary to narrow the options. Students then held a General Election yesterday, where they voted for their choice in naming their new school mascot. They checked in, completed their ballot, submitted it, received their sticker and then awaited the results! They had to choose between Ash and Ember for their mascot, the Fernway Phoenix. In a vote of 170 to 107, the new name is Ash!
This election activity included many lessons for our students on civic and community engagement along the way! Well done, Fernway!
