The Berea-Midpark Middle School's Courtyard and Children’s Garden opening was a wonderful celebration of the Garden Club's first full year.
The journey began with just three students and a small group of dedicated teachers and staff planting the first plants last August. Today, the Garden Club has blossomed into a group of 25 students!
Throughout the year, the BMMS Garden Club has completed numerous projects, including:
- Constructing four Adirondack chairs
- Building six modular sectional seats
- Maintaining the gardens
- Installing a Koi Pond
- Adding a Directional Sign
A special highlight of the garden are the murals in the courtyard. This past November, Mrs. McCulley-Frankenfield's eighth grade advanced art students took on the challenge of designing and painting these murals. After six months of dedication, their incredible artwork now decorates the garden. A heartfelt thank you to the Brook Park American Legion Post 610 for their generous $650 donation for the mural supplies.
The Garden Club would also like to thank:
- Grace Church for coordinating the donation of all perennial plants with Uncle John's Plant Farm in Columbia Station.
- Mrs. Mary Draves for designing the plant layout and assisting with the planting.
- Berea Kiwanis Club for their $650 donation, making our Koi Pond a reality.
- Berea Federation of Teachers for their $250 donation towards garden maintenance.
- BCSD Buildings and Grounds Department for providing water sources, electrical outlets, and mural installation.
- Mrs. Botzman and the BMMS Builders Club for helping maintain the gardens and set up for the event.
- Mrs. Pearl for her dedication at weekly Garden Club meetings and weekend work.
- Our incredible students for their hard work and belief in this project.
Thank you to Mrs. Wheeler, Mr. Draves, Mr. Velotta, and the BMMS Building Committee for their support. Without them, this project would not have been possible.
Lastly, a special thank you to Mr. Pearl, who runs the Garden Club and has been instrumental in its success.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the event.
