Personalized Learning of NEO Network

Personalized Learning

The ESC of Northeast Ohio is excited to support the work with Ohio’s Personalized Learning Framework.  The support that is provided at the ESC of Northeast Ohio is a design process.  It will look different in different schools, but there are some common characteristics of this approach…

What is personalized learning?
Personalized Learning is defined by the state of Ohio as a learner driven approach to instruction that empowers students to take ownership of their learning. Using this flexible approach, educators help learners:

  • overcome obstacles to their learning by meeting them where they are, co-constructing goals, supporting learners’ choices, and collaboratively monitoring progress.
  • co-design and facilitate authentic learning pathways, experiences and assessments, aligned to equitable supports around learners’ needs, interests, aspirations, and cultural backgrounds to prepare them for future success.
  • accelerate learning through innovative evidence-based practices such as mastery and competency-based learning to meet learners where they are, provide them with multiple ways to show what they know, and measure and promote growth.

Why is it important?
Personalized learning is important because it will help your learners to be empowered and engaged in their learning by being more active in the process.  A personalized learning approach provides teachers and students with the tools and future-focused skills needed to reach their full potential and succeed in college, career and as global citizens.   Using this approach, learners will understand themselves as learners and it will help learners understand their “why” for learning and will help them to develop their purpose.
