SEL Memorial Students Participate in Patriot's Pen Contest

Ten Memorial Junior High students were recognized by members of the Al Santos Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7536, located in Lyndhurst, for their essay submissions to the V.F.W. Patriot's Pen Writing Contest. This year's theme was "How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?"

Students were treated to a pizza and cake lunch to celebrate their participation and achievement before the awards recognition.
Nine students received Honorable Mention awards, which included a Youth Essay Award Citation, a gift card, and a VFW auxiliary pin.
Seventh grader Raevenel Johnson received first place in the contest and his essay will be forwarded to District 7 to continue on in the competition. He received a Youth Essay Award, a $100 prize check, and a VFW auxiliary pin in recognition of his achievement.
Congratulations to all ten of our MJH students who participated!
