Shaker Heights Schools' Teacher Anthony Bokar Wins Ohio Award for Excellent Teaching in Mathematics

Congratulations to Innovative Center for Personalized Learning (IC) math teacher Anthony Bokar, who was awarded the Ohio Award for Excellent Teaching in Mathematics, the George B. Chapman Mathematics Teaching Award, presented by the Jennings Foundation, recognizing him as one of Ohio’s exemplary public school teachers!

This year approximately 100 Ohio educators were nominated by their principals and superintendents to honor and acknowledge their efforts to ensure students learn deeply and thrive. A committee consisting of Ohio public school educators evaluated all applications to determine finalists for each award category. As the winner, Mr. Bokar will receive a $7,500 grant for his classroom.

“He has always taken his time to make sure I understand everything and he has always made sure that I connect my learning with something that I'm actually interested in, which has really allowed me to go further than I thought I could,” junior John Webster said of Mr. Bokar.

A nine-year veteran teacher, this is Mr. Bokar’s first year with Shaker Heights Schools. His creative approach to teaching is helping students approach math in a new way that has them excited.

“I’ve been able to learn about topics that are more interesting to me,” said junior Marissa Garrett-Morris. “He's helped me turn learning about logic into a full course, which I'm really enjoying doing.”

Mr. Bokar is looking forward to continuing the IC mission to do school differently.
