What Will Remote Learning Look Like For My Child?

Dear Parents,

We are here to support your child as they navigate their remote learning experience. We understand that this is new for many students and families, and you may have many questions. We've been serving our Ohio school districts for nearly a decade and have successfully helped thousands of students with online learning. We hope the answers below will help!
The Ohio Online Learning Program is provided by the ESC of Northeast Ohio. Our K-12 program gives students the opportunity to remain in their home districts, earn a local diploma, and participate in district sports and extra curricular activities. It’s the best of both worlds. Students can be a part of their local schools while learning online at home.

We also partner with Lincoln Learning Solutions and Edgenuity, two leading online curriculum providers. Both are accredited with AdvancED, courses are NCAA approved, and align with Ohio state and national common core standards.
Students in grades K-5 will use the Lincoln Learning Solutions platform and will be enrolled in English Language Arts, math, science, and social studies courses. Possible electives could include PE, music, or art. (*Some districts will use Lincoln Learning Solutions for K-12)

Students in grades 6-12 will use the Edgenuity platform and will be enrolled in English, math, science, social studies, and one or two electives.

All students will be provided with an online calendar or course report that will pace out their lessons and assignments. Every student should follow this schedule so they finish by their school's deadline date or 19 weeks whichever comes first (start and end dates will be provided upon enrollment).
  • All courses K-12 are asynchronous, meaning they are not live; therefore, students can log on anytime 24 hours/7 days a week. STUDENTS SHOULD ACTIVELY WORK IN EACH COURSE AT LEAST ONE HOUR PER DAY. Activity time is tracked and reported to the school.
  • Courses are facilitated by certified teachers. Students will work through their daily lesson at their own pace and teachers are there to grade, provide feedback, and tutoring help during their office hours. COURSES ARE NOT LIVE.
  • All parents/guardians will have access to view their student's grades and activity time (accounts will be created upon enrollment).
  • K-5 parents will be able to observe their child's course and follow the parent guide which is located in the course resource folder so parents can fully support their child's learning.

Follow the example below or make a schedule that fits your student's needs

8:00-9:00- ENGLISH
9:30-10:30- MATH
11:00-12:00- SCIENCE
12:00-1:00- LUNCH
2:30-3:30- ELECTIVE

This will vary per child, but once students get started, it doesn't take long for them to feel comfortable navigating their course. It may take up to one week to fully get acclimated, but both platforms are very user-friendly. Students will know in advance what lessons and activities they need to work on and helping your child follow a routine is key. K-5 students will need help printing, scanning/uploading documents, following their daily calendar, and making sure all activities are done for the day. Most middle school and high school students are able to work independently with regular checks ins from parents.

There will be ample amount of support for your child during their time in our program. In addition to their course teachers, Ohio Online Learning will provide Student Learning Advocates who will support students and families from day one. Furthermore, if your child is on an IEP/504 plan, both providers have Student Services departments who will review the accommodations and modify the courses as best they can for the online learning environment. We will work with your school to gather all the necessary documentation.

Your school district will let you know about any Parent Information Night webinars and Student Orientation webinars that will take place in the coming weeks. We hope you can join us! Please contact your school district for their plans on enrollment. For more information about the program, please contact your school or visit us at
