Euclid's Chardon Hills 5th Graders Blast Off to Middle School

On Wednesday, Fifth Graders at Chardon Hills STEM School got to participate in a time honored tradition – Rocket Day.
To celebrate the students’ “launch” into middle school, the fifth graders spent time during their science lessons last week assembling their rocket, parachute and engine. During the assembly process, each student was encouraged to incorporate their middle school goals somewhere into the rocket.

This week, with perfect weather, each fifth grade student got to launch their rocket from the front yard of Chardon Hills. With Mrs. Nelson acting as Mission Control and several adult volunteers as Launch Directors, each student used their iPad to record the launch sequence. After giving their name and their goals, the students pressed their buttons and watched their rockets fly off into the sky!

After reaching its’ apex, each rocket deployed their parachute allowing the students to run after them and catch them.

Throughout the morning, students from other classes were invited outside to witness learning literally take flight. This annual exercise is always a fun and encouraging event for Chardon Hills fifth graders, while acting as a great science and physics lesson for all Chardon Hills STEM students.
