Brooklyn City Schools' Third Grade Classrooms Celebrate Thursday Heritage Days in January

Third grade students at Brooklyn School are learning about diverse cultures represented in their classrooms through weekly presentations by parents during the month of January. Known as Thursday Heritage Days, the special learning activity provides students the opportunity to listen to classroom parents share about their unique ethnic heritage, including the Dominican Republic, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. After each presentation, teachers guided students in a discussion about the similarities and differences between the different cultures. At the end of January, students will complete a culminating activity involving a short response opinion essay on which culture they found the most interesting and the reasons to support their selection.

The Thursday Heritage Days are connected to the annual district-wide Hurricane Heritage Week which will take place January 27-31 and feature special assemblies, activities, and a parade throughout the entire district campus. A special thank you to all participating third-grade parents for providing our students with an enriching cultural learning experience.
