ROMANIAN EDUCATORS SEEK INPUT FROM LAKEWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT ON TRAUMA
The District was fortunate to be able to host last week a delegation of Romanian educators participating in a visit to the U.S. through the Congressional Office for International Leadership in collaboration with the U.S. State Department. The group was especially interested in learning the U.S. ways of supporting students dealing with trauma and isolation as they will be helping to facilitate the entry of Ukrainian refugee students into their classrooms at the beginning of the school year.
Leaders of the organization, which is based out of Chagrin Falls, had read about Lakewood’s work with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and Social Emotional Learning, which prompted them to reach out to our team to be included in this visit. Meeting participants said it was inspiring to hear the Romanian educators' interest in meeting the needs of their students while facing these challenges with limited resources. At the end of the meeting, the idea of continuing collaboration and potentially connecting our students with theirs was suggested. The group also visited Lakewood High School and met with members of the school counseling team.
