Shaker Heights High School Students Earn High Arts Awards

March 27, 2023 - Congratulations to the following students and works of art, which won National and State awards!

Ella Grey - National Gold Key for Yellow Hibiscus Hair Pin

Ella Grey - National Silver Key for Sepal Centered- Mixed Media

Zoe Stiefel - National Silver Key for Swamp House- Pen and Ink Drawing

Ella Grey - Award in the Ohio Governor Exhibition for her cuff bracelet.


Scholastic National Awards

More than 100,000 students submitted more than 260,000 works of art and writing to the 2023 Scholastic Awards. Work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Fewer than 2,000 works received a National Medal, which places winning students within the top 1% of all submissions! Work will be showcased in the Online Galleries at artandwriting.org in June. National Gold Key winners will be invited to attend the Centennial Gala on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Shaker High School received 3 out of the 14 national awards given in Northeast Ohio.


Ohio Governor Youth Art Exhibition

The fifty-third Ohio Governor Youth Art Exhibition will open for viewing on Sunday, April 23, at the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus. This juried exhibition is comprised of creative expressions in the visual arts created by outstanding and talented students from Ohio schools. The exhibition is a cooperative effort between the Governor of Ohio, the Ohio Department of Education, colleges, universities and business sponsors. The selection of 326 works of art, created by 9th- through 12th-grade students, was selected from 8,300 art entries. 


Teachers of the award winning students are Meryl Haring, Matt Deibel and Karen Mehling-Howson.
