Garfield Heights Students Using Heroic Farms Grow Stations to Enhance Life Skills
Students at Maple Leaf Elementary School are learning hands-on experiences about growing plants for consumption, with the help of the innov

ative Heroic Farms growth stations. Getting their respective hands dirty in soil, but enriching their brains and know-how all the while, students were introduced to Arkseed and learned about soil content.
Students planted kale, basil, spinach, and lettuce, and have been taking care of the plants, tasting them daily for weeks. They even took some of them home over spring break recently. Students learned that basil lowers blood pressure and that it helps with digestion. Lettuce has vitamin C, and is good for liver disease. Spinach reduces blood sugar and is good for the eyes. Kale is rich in calcium, vitamin C & K and iron. All plants were labeled and have been monitored. Growing flowers is up next for Maple Leaf students. When the weather warms, the courtyard will be prepped to be able to transport and plant the flowers.
Heroic Farms is part of the Heroic Game Day platform life skills learning opportunities, where students use the online game-based portal to obtain valuable future-preparedness skills.
