Interactive Career Fair Sparks Excitement in Bedford Preschool through Second grade students

Career exploration can start early, sparking children’s excitement to connect interests to future jobs. Aligning with Ohio’s Social Emotional Learning Standards on career development, the Bedford City School District hosted its first career fair for Glendale Elementary preschool through second graders. The goal was for students to see how they can take pride in doing good work, support themselves, their family and contribute to their community.

The young Bearcats delighted in learning firsthand from professionals in various fields like mechanics, nursing, cosmetology, law enforcement, and engineering. Students engaged interactively with each presenter, getting to ask questions and trying equipment relevant to the careers.

Exposing primary grade students to hands-on, real world career experiences plants important seeds. It nurtures their curiosity around how school learning links to life paths, while building knowledge of job options. Most importantly, it empowers children to recognize their immense potential to pursue their passions. Initiating career education early allows students to discover talents and interests, guiding both academic and technical skill growth in their formative years.
