CH-UH Seniors Win STEM Scholarship for Girls

Niko Bell and Brooklyn Pace, seniors at Heights High were two of six recipients of the Lorraine Dodero STEM Goes Red for Girls Scholarship event on Monday, October 23, at the Great Lakes Science Center. The scholarship was developed in 2019 by American Red Heart’s Go Red for Women movement and Lorraine Dodero of the Sam J. Fankino Foundation. Five recipients are awarded a $5,000 scholarship that can be used to attend a college, university or vocational institution to pursue a degree in a STEM-related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

Heights Honors Biology teacher, Mrs. Leatrice Clark attended the event with eight female students giving them access to leading employers and experts in the STEM field with an inside look at what they do.

Another great highlight of the scholarship event was when Mrs. Clark’s group had the opportunity to meet with former Wiley Middle School and Cleveland Heights alum, Whitney Spears, who works as an Associate Engineer at Cleveland Water. Whitney attended this year’s event and served as a mentor.
